Ch. Chhotu Ram revived the honour of farmers: Hooda

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister has said that Ch. Chhotu Ram revived the honour of farmers. Speaking at the function organized by Sir Chhotu Ram Memorial Society in Rohtak today, on the occasion of his Jayanti, Mr. Hooda said that Ch. Chhotu Ram was born in a small family, but his activities and achievements are such, which inspire us even today. Ch. Chhotu Ram freed the farmers from the clutches of sahukars and during the British times, as Revenue Minister he took important decisions in the interest of farmers and saved them from ruin.

                        Mr. Hooda said that Ch. Chhotu Ram not only awakened the feelings of self respect in the farmers, he also raised his voice against the injustice being done to labour class and other weaker sections. Taking inspiration from Ch. Chhotu Ram, welfare schemes for farmers, labourers and other sections of society are being implemented in Haryana. In this context he mentioned the schemes like Mukhyamantri Kisan and Khetihar Majdoor Jeevan Suraksha Yojna, Doodharu Pashudhan Suraksha Yojna, Compensation schemes for the damage of crops due to natural calamities and Samajik Suraksha Yojna for laborers etc.

                   Mr. Hooda also referred to the recommendations of the Work Group, constituted by the Prime Minister under his Chairmanship and said that the Work Group recommended reduction of interest rate from 11 percent to 4 percent and the support price for the agriculture produce to be one and half times the cost of its production. Mr. Hooda also said that reservation for Jat community in Government jobs has been done in Haryana and the Central Government is also likely to take such decision. He called upon the farmers to awaken, get united and play their part effectively.

                   On this occasion Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan Mr. Gyan Prakash Pilania said that Ch. Chhotu Ram did a lot of work for the benefit for the society and Ch. Bhupinder Singh Hooda is following his footsteps in Haryana.

                   Former Speaker of Delhi Assembly Dr. Yogander Shastri said that Ch. Chhotu Ram was very much respected at that time and it is said that had he been alive for three more years, the country would not have been divided. Exhorting the people Dr. Shastri said that you are lucky to have Ch. Bhupinder Singh as Chief Minister, who is following the ideals of Ch. Chhotu Ram.

                   Former Union Minister Ch. Chand Ram also expressed his views.

                   The Chief Minister Mr. Hooda presented a shawl, commendation Certificate  and amount of Rs. 5100 in honour of late Ch. Maru Singh, which were received by his son Jagjeet Singh Malik. Mr. Hooda also gave Rs. 11 lakh for the Society.

                   On this occasion, MLAs Bharat Bhushan Batra, Anand Singh Dangi, Shakuntla Khatak, Smt. Premlata, MDU Vice Chancellor H.S. Chahal, Capt. Chattar Singh & a number of other dignitaries were also present.
