Gaganjit, Sanjiv, Manan, Kawalpreet received Simmi Marwaha Memorial Award

Chandigarh, 2nd April Thursday, 2015 (Kulbir Singh Kalsi):- Simmi Marwaha Memorial Charitable Trust today organised its 12th Young Journalist Award Felicitation Ceremony at Chandigarh Press Club,Sector 27, Chandigarh. According to Ms. Rajinder Rossy, Managing Trustee and mother of Simmi Marwaha, this year four young journalists has been honoured for bringing the excellence in their work.

Gaganjit kaur the topper of PU Mass Communications (Correspondence), Sanjiv Shrama from Chandigarh hr working in Rajasthan Patrika, Manan Saini form gurdaspur punjab working in Amar Ujala & Kawalpreet Singh
from Delhi in electronic media working in Zee Punjabi were the given the honour.

Present on the ocassion, well known poets of Hindi and Punjabi literature like recited thier poems. also shared the memories of Simmi.

Projects undertaken by trust so far.
1. Encourage the young reporters of region
2. initiation of several social work projects in region
3. Free treatment for the TB diseases in Dot Centre
4. TB Awareness Camps in Slum areas.
5. Telephone facility in Cremation Ground, Phase 7, Mohali
6. Free medical services to poorly, elderly and orphans
7. Immediate support to victims affected in road accidents.

About Simmi Marwaha :
24 year old Simmi Marwaha was the lady journalist working in Chandigarh. She served Dainik Bhaskar, Chandigarh and Siti Channel, a sister concerned Channel of Zee News and known for her investigative
reportings. She met an accident on March 22, 2003 riding her scooter on her way office in Sector 20, Chandigarh. She died on the spot in Sector 42-43-52-53 dividing roads. To cherish the memories of her
beloved daughter, mother Rajinder Rossy instituted a trust named “Simmi MarwahaMemorial Charitable Trust’ to encourage the young journalist of the region and to initiate some social work activities.
