Chandigarh, 01 May 2015:   A meeting of Public Health Coordination Committee was held under the Chairmanship of Advisor to the Administrator Vijay Kumar Dev, UT-Chandigarh in which Secretary Health Sh. Anurag Aggarwal, Commissioner Municipal Corporation V P Singh, UT-Chandigarh, DPI Schools, Director Health Services, Senior Regional Director Health & Family Welfare, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Director Malaria Public Health Experts from PGIMER and GMCH-32, Chief Engineer Municipal Corporation, Medical Officer of Health, President IMA Chandigarh Branch and Anti Malaria Officer UT-Chandigarh participated.

The main purpose of this meeting was to chalk out the strategy jointly by the Health Department and Municipal Corporation to tackle any outbreak situation from Vector/ water Borne diseases

The Advisor to the Administrator was mainly concerned about the Choe area running around and through the city for which he suggested to frame a special strategy for the containment of the breeding of the mosquitoes for which he has also called a special meeting of the SE’s and XEN’s later. He also gave a green signal for the implementation of the epidemic disease act 1897 and instructed the controlling officers to ensure the issuance of notices and Challaning to the offenders or owners of the places from where mosquitogenic situations arises. He instructed to implement this act with immediate effect. Moreover he highly appreciated the strategy of involving school children by implementing the concept of Dengue card for containment of Dengue conditions. He instructed the DPI School and Director Higher education to widely publicize the concept of Dengue Card which will be filled by the school children’s for the period of three months after going back to their homes and look out for the sources of stagnant water especially in coolers and other household items. These school and college students will be the ambassadors of the Health Department

Municipal Commissioner Sh. V P Singh highlighted that water testing is being conducted on routine basis from various areas of Chandigarh and ensured its crosschecking from various agencies. He also suggested that the people should be conscious about the drinking water and should avoid cut fruits as well as readymade ice. He also apprised the committee that timely chlorination is being done by the staff of Municipal Corporation. He discouraged the use of Hand Pumps and installation of booster pump on the direct water supply line especially from the residents of the slum areas.

Director Health & Family Welfare Dr. V K Gagneja ensured the committee that Health Department is prepared to tackle any kind of disease epidemic and appraised the committee that Department has sufficient supply of drugs and insecticides. He also suggested that various Medical Colleges and Private Practitioners be involved in the situations of Epidemics as well as control of Malaria and Dengue. He also appraised the Adviser to the Administrator about the involvement of College Students, VHSC and Public representatives in the control of various diseases.
