Vikram Chaudhary:
Marred with factionalism, the ongoing battle over the reconstitution of the
Himachal Pradesh Congress committee the battle has shifted to the New Delhi with the
Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi to have the final say in the choosing the state
congress chief.
The congress leaders aspiring to take over the party's top post have started hectic
lobbying to outshine one another. Present chief of congress Thakur Kaul Singh and Smt.
Vidya Stokes are already in Delhi. Other names doing the rounds are that of Former

Tourism minister in Virbhadra Singh cabinet Mr. G.S Bali and Smt. Asha Kumari.
At Delhi Union Steel Minister Raja Virbhadra Singh is lobbying hard for his
loyalists. Mr Singh had earlier expressed apprehensions over the genuineity of the
Organisational polls. He is pleading that the next chief should be from Dalit or OBC
A section of the party leader also says that PCC should be from lower region of
Himachal. This lobbying has once again brought politically significant Kangra district in
the lime light. There are more than four names that are doing the rounds from Kangra.
Chander Chaudhary and Sudhir Sharma are backed by Raja Virbhadra Singh. For Sudhir
Sharma it is a very significant move as the area which he represents "Baijnath" has been
declared as a reserved constituency. He has either shift to Palampur annoying Brij Bihari
Lal Butail, another close confident of Raja Virbhadra Singh. So the only option left for
Mr. Sudhir Sharma is either to as a sitting MLA contest from Palampur or get a top
position on the Organisation or the last option left for the young MLA is to contest the
Kangra parliamentary seat as a Congress candidate. As in Kangra it is generally a trend
that the MP is of the ruling party at the center.
Rajya Sabha member Viplov Thakur and Mr. G.S Bali are using their political links in
New Delhi.
Former Education miister Asha Kumari who had been in the forefront of the organisation
elections is also eyeing the top post. Though some senior leaders in the congress have
opposed her candidature, but her proximity to Delhi has brightened her chances.

Sources within the party say that elections for the post of PCC chief will be
announced in a week. There is every possibility that the PCC members would pass a
resolution authorising the AICC president to constitute the body.
What ever the outcome may be the factionalism in the congress with a passage of
time will keep on increasing . Once the issue of PCC chief is setteled there is going to be
isues of alloting of the tickets after two years for the Vidhan Sabha elections and if
Congress party is able to get majority then the issue of who will be the next Chief
Minister.( End of Matter)
