Will BJP once again go for Shanta Kumar in 2019 parliament elections, is a million rupee question. Born 12 September 1934 (age 83 years), Shanta Kumar is the only unmatched non Congress political leader of the merged areas (the areas attached from Punjab to Himachal in 1966), which is also known as  Lower Himachal. Shanta remained Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh twice and was a former Union Minister in Government of India. Elected to Lok Sabha from Kangra constituency in 2014, he is at present , MP  of the Bharatiya Janata Party . Earlier was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha from Kangra constituency in 1989. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998 and 1999 from the same constituency. He was also  elected to the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh in 2008

Though his political career began in 1963 when he was elected as a Panch in the Gram Panchayat for Garhjamula, he is now 83 and the top management of the party Modi & Shah doesn’t like oldies.

According to sources his growing age and politically weak son may close his family’s political innings and before party says him good bye, he may hang is shoes. Serving the Himachal assembly from 1972 and Parliament from 1989, the old stalwart, who is the creator of ‘No Work no Pay’ & ‘Antoday’ may be made to announce his force retirement before 2019 elections.

Shanta Kumar , who was the senior minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government from 1999 to 2004, denied such seat after 2014 elections by PM N Modi.

Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh (1990–1992) &(1977–1980), Shanta Kumar is having more close relations with Jai Ram Thakur, the present CM of BJP lead government in HP, than the ex CM Prem Kumar Dhumal, and this close connection may favour the recommendation of Shanta’s name once again for Kangra in next year’s general elections. Shanta and Jai Ram met early this month in a closed room at Palampur, and Thakur later indicated the press that the party candidature of Shanta Kumar for coming Lok Sabha elections is in the hand of BJP High Command,  only Delhi will decide it.

Now the question is if No Shanta than who will be fielded by BJP from most important Kangra constituency in 2019. Mahila Morcha, leader Indu Goswami of Baijnath, who is said to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with whom she worked when he was party in-charge of Himachal Pradesh. The Next in the race is former minister and senior BJP leader Ravinder Ravi, who lost the last Assembly elections to independent Hoshiar Singh in Dehra, was considered right hand of Dhumal in last BJP government. Ramesh Chand Dhawala, BJP MLA from Jawalamukhi, who was denied Ministerial birth from Kangra this time or Shanta’s close associate the Ex MLA Parveen Kumar. Only time will tell or Amit shaw’s clearance for BJP’s candidate from Kangra, but to enjoy such a huge voters support, which Shanta was enjoying in area ,will be a uphill task for all other BJP leaders.
