HPOA decides to have its own Olympic Bhawan in Shima and organise State Olympic Festival in June in Hamirpur

CHANDIGARH, JAN 21 

Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur and Rajesh Bhandari were unanimously elected president and general secretary, respectively, of the Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association in the generaly body meeting held in Dharamshala today. Other office-bearers for the term of four-years were also elected.

Office-bearers: President: Anurag Thakur (Member of Parliament); · Senior Vice-President: Virender Kanwar (MLA); Vice Presidents: DD Thakur, Anil Sharma (Cabinet Minister Govt of H.P), Sukh Ram Chaudhary; General Secretary: Rajesh Bhandari; Treasurer: Ajay Sood; Joint Secretaries: Ishwar Rohal, Ramesh Chauhan.

 

Executive members: Ajay Rana, TP Chopra, Jagdish, Raj Kumar, Devi Dutt, Jagir Singh, Sushil Bhardwaj and Deepak Sharma.

Nirwan Mukherjee attended the meeting as observer of the Indian Olympic Association. Ratan Lal Thakur (observer) of the Himachal Pradesh Government Sports Council was present. NP Gulleria, hockey coach, DYSSO was also present.

The newly elected office-bearers have resolved to have its own Olympic Bhawan in Shimla state for better coordination and communication between the associations and the sportspersons. The HPOA will request the State Government to allot land on lease for the proposed Olympic Bhawan while will be developed by the HPOA .The HPOA Bhawan would also have facilities for indoor games and other related infrastructure .

The HPOA will organize the state Olympic Festival on the lines of the National Games at Hamirpur from June 23 to 26 2017 where all the games and affiliated units would participate.

The newly elected body and members deliberated extensively on how to improve the quality of sports in the state which has an immense pool of talent but is not doing well due to the lack of quality infrastructure and a concrete policy for the development of the same . The house decided to have a blueprint for the same with the help of experts and studying the models followed by other states which would be pursued with the government and other stake holders to be implemented.

Anurag Thakur thanked the observers and the members present for their precious time and to ensure a free fair election , also urged them to work harder for the betterment of sports in the state as they have been doing and also assured them that he is fully committed and devoted to the cause and would give all if efforts required in this direction
