Dalai Lama on retreat in Leh until 12th August

81 years old Tibetan spiritual leader The Dalai Lama who arrived in Leh, Ladakh, on Monday will be on retreat and rest for two weeks until August 12. Leh, Ladakh, J&K, India


 The office of Dalai Lama in Dharamshala said that Dalai lama  is at Shewatsel Phodrang, His Holiness’ official residence in Ladakh. He assumed his seat in the small assembly hall below his residence where the lamas, local leaders, both civilian and police, as well as religious and community leaders gathered on his arrival . Ganden Tri Rinpoche, the President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, and the local Tibetan Settlement Officer made the traditional mendel tensum offering to His Holiness.


Finally, before retiring for the day, His Holiness informed them that he was planning to spend the next three to four weeks in Leh including a two-week rest period with no scheduled engagements.


Dalai Lama’s next scheduled to give a teaching on Atisha's Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment (jangchup lamdron) and Nagarjuna's Commentary on Bodhicitta (jangchup semdrel) at Thiksey Monastery. The following day, on August 13, His Holiness will confer a long life empowerment (tsewang) and be offered a long life prayer at the same venue.


On August 19 and 20, His Holiness will give a teachings on Shantideva's A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life (Chodjug) at Shiwaitsel Teaching Ground and confer the Avalokiteshhvera Initiation (Chenrezig ki Wang) the following day.
