Rollout of Rural Information and Communications Technology Project started today at Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 1st August Tuesday, 2017 (kulbir singh kalsi):  Rollout of Rural Information and Communications Technology Project was started today at Chandigarh by Smt. Manisha Bansal Badal, Director Postal Services, Punjab Circle & U.T. Chandigarh.Under this project, 170 Branch Post offices (BOs) in rural areas of Chandigarh Division have been provided with handheld MCD (Man Computing Device) and peripherals. Ms. Manisha BansalBadal, DPS (HQ) Punjab Circle & U.T. Chandigarh, intimated that these devices will be used initially for Savings Bank transactions by the Branch Postmasters in Rural Post Offices.
 Later on they will also be used for booking and payment of electronic money orders and other transactions for booking of Registered Letters, Speed Post etc. She said that initially the rollout will start in 3 divisions of Punjab i.e Chandigarh, Ludhiana Muffasil and Jalandhar. lt will be further expanded to cover all the 13 divisions in the circle. With this rollout, all 3864 post offices in Punjab Postal Circle will be networked with each other. On Completion of this project, all 1, 55,000 post offices in the country will be networked .
Ms. Radhika Dhir, Sr. Supdt. of Post Offices, Chandigarh was also present during this auspicious occasion. On this occassion, Ms. Manisha BansalBadal, handed over the handheld devices to the Branch Postmasters andsaid that the Postal Departmental is committed to provide all kinds of services to the customers through its wide network of more than 1.5 lakh post offices. She said that the post office is reinventing itself by technology induction thereby making it more useful & relevant to the public.
