Chandigarh, Nov 24--Kiran Choudhry, Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party, has demanded a high-level probe into the alleged torture  bus conductor Ashok Kumar was subjected to by the Haryana Police to extort confession from him that he killed seven-year-old Pradyuman Thakur in Ryan School, Gurugram, and sought protection and adequate compensation to enable him to recover and lead a normal life.

In a statement issued here today, the former excise and taxation minister said the third-degree methods allegedly used by the police had left Ashok, out of jail after being granted bail, physically and mentally wrecked. That he was drugged and electrocuted to force a confession exposes the conduct of the police force which seems to be taking instructions from the political bosses.

Ashok’s words, “The police have ruined my life; my legs do not move and I feel  sluggish all the time….I know that I will never be the same again; I may never be mentally and physically fit to earn again” paint Haryana Police in poor light. The BJP Government, led by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, should order a high-level probe to identify those responsible for the plight of Ashok, punish the guilty, provide him adequate protection and compensation so that he can lead a normal life, Mrs Choudhry demanded.

“The Chief Minister should also come clean on at whose behest, and to cover up whom, did his police force act to extort confession under duress from Ashok against whom the CBI says there is evidence to prove his involvement in the murder”, she added.
