SAD party is committed for the people of Punjab: Sukhbir

Shiromani Akali Dal President and Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the party was committed to study the aspirations of people and adopt policies as per their expectations.  He said the party was receiving quality feedback in the ongoing district wise meetings and would henceforth hold such meetings quarterly. 


Talking to the media before attending the party meetings here at the party head office, Mr. Badal said these meetings were a part of an exercise being conducted by the party to get feedback from ground zero besides strengthening the party at the grass root level. He said as per feedback party had identified the areas where more administrative reforms were needed.


          Replying to a query regarding property tax, Mr. Badal said the Punjab government was reviewing the issue and planning to make a system in which property tax would not be charged as per collector rates. He said directions had been issued to all Deputy Commissioners to revise collector rates keeping in mind the downfall in real-estate business after discussing it with stake holders.


          Stressing on the need of drug de-addiction, Mr. Badal said the Punjab government would allocate a special budget for drug de-addiction. He said the government would provide cheep medicines to drug de-addiction centers besides organizing special drug de-addiction camps. He advised media not to defame Punjabis by creating hype on this issue. He said the government had initiated a war against drugs and seized large quantity of drugs besides sending a number of drug peddlers behind bars during its 7 years rule. He said a section of media and opposition were giving a political colour to the fight against drugs by claiming that every Punjabi was in the grip of drugs.


Later, Mr. Badal held a meeting with district units of Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar and Tarn Taran.
