Badal ask people to play proactive role

Laaleaana (Bathinda), June 5-The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today exhorted the Panchayats, common people and especially the youth to play a proactive role in weaning away the menace of drugs from the state.

Addressing the gathering during the Sangat Darshan program of the Talwandi Sabo assembly segment here today, the Chief Minister said that the problem of drugs was one of the biggest challenges confronted by the state these days. He said that though the state government has already declared a war against drugs in the state but it could achieve the desired goal only through the active support and cooperation of the public. Mr. Badal said that youth was the biggest asset of the state and the need of the hour was to channelize their unbounded energy in constructive works.

          Equating drug addiction with a sort of disease, the Chief Minister said that it was very easy to overcome any such disease by strong will power and motivation. He said that the state government has already initiated a massive drug de-addiction drive by opening the de-addiction centers across Punjab, where the addicted youth were given medicines free of cost. Mr. Badal impressed upon the parents of the addicted youth to come forward for their treatment so that desirable results of the drive could be achieved. “We are firmly committed to tackle the grave problem of drugs in the state for which the active support every strata of society is required” he added.

          Replying to another query, the Chief Minister categorically said that the state government would not allow the forfeiting of land of any farmer, who has failed to pay back the loan of banks. He said that this matter would be resolved very soon.

          The Chief Minister also urged the people not to get swayed away with the politics of ‘hollow slogans’ as persuaded by some political parties these days. He said that some people were misleading the public by unleashing negative propaganda against the state government but the days of such politics were numbered. Mr. Badal said that only time tested political leaders could serve the people in an efficient manner adding that the Shiromani Akali Dal has a glorious history in this context as it had played a leading role in safeguarding the interests of the Punjabis.

Slamming the Congress party, the Chief Minister said that the successive Congress governments at the Centre have always meted out step motherly treatment with Punjab. However, he said that with the routing of the Congress led UPA government this discriminatory era has ended. Mr. Badal said that with the formation of the NDA government at the centre a new era of unprecedented development in the state would be ushered.

Highlighting the importance of the Sangat Darshan programs, the Chief Minister said that it has remained an integral part of governance ever since he became the Chief Minister of state. Terming the Sangat Darshan program as the finest example of democracy, he said that it virtually brings the government at the doorsteps of the people besides offering on the spot redressal of their complaints.

On the occasion he also announced that the NGO namely Nasha Virodhi Manch formed by the youth of village Bhagiwander to spread awareness against Drugs would be honored in the state level function on Independence day.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by former MLA Mr. Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, his Special Principal Secretary Mr. KJS Cheema and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Basant Garg.
