4th International Film Festival of Shimla to begin from 12 October 2018

Shimla: The three days long International Film Festival of Shimla will begin from 12 October 2018 in Gaiety Theatre where around 80 International as well as National films by acclaimed film makers from 28 countries will be screened. Festival Director Pushp Raj Thakur said, “Cinema is a brilliant way of expressing various cultures and societies. It is a proud moment to host the 4th edition of the film festival in Gaiety Theatre which has been the mecca of many theatre artists who have excelled in cinema as well.”

For the first time in the history of Indian Film Festivals, a special screening of the films is organized for the Jail inmates of Model Central Jail Kanda, Himachal Pradesh. Festival Director Pushp Raj Thakur said, “This is for the first time IFFS is having two different venues of the event and the idea behind the second venue is to bridge the gap of the inside world and the outside through cinema, and nurture the creativity of the prisoners. By promoting such activities and involving the jail inmates with the world outside, IFFS intends to motivate the prisoners who are struggling to find their place in the world.”

Along with the screening of films, there will be Master Classes by award winning film makers Ms. Jennifer Alphonsse from Hydrabad and Mr. Rajesh James from Kerala. The registration for the Master classes will take place on the spot.

In the event, the audience will get a chance to watch the national award winning films by well-known film makers during the three days long event.  The films are categorized under documentary films, short films, animation films and feature films category. During the film festival there will be a special slot for media interaction with the film directors.  

Cinema being one of the most powerful tools that can help in shaping the perceptions of society, also enhances creativity and by encouraging the events like film festivals we can feed the international level of tourism to its fullest growth. Film tourism is widely accepted in foreign countries and if taken seriously it can enhance the growth of economy if right tourism marketing strategies be applied.
