Haryana starts Psycho-Social helpline number 1075, to cope the stress

Chandigarh, April 10 – The Psycho-Social helpline 1075 launched by the Haryana government for giving aid to persons affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has received a tremendous response from the volunteers as around 110 volunteers have offered their services for tele-counselling.

          Giving information in this regard, an official spokesman of the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that it is for the first time such a helpline has been launched by the Health Department. He informed that with the persistent efforts of Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Mr. Rajeev Arora, this helpline has been started with the aim of providing psychiatric support to the people affected by the corono virus pandemic.

          Also, to help ease the stress and anxiety amongst migrant labour, presently staying in camps throughout the state, teams of counsellors from different departments like Health, Education, Women and Child Development and Social Justice and Empowerment Department are carrying out counselling and other psychological support activities on a daily basis.

          The fact that so many volunteers have stepped in to help the needy in these testing times is an indication of the innate good nature of human beings who help each other in the time of need and boosts the morale of the health and other workers on the frontline during this war against this virus.

          The health department is making all out efforts to contain the spread of the virus. The department has set up a separate cell for mental health professionals who can be contacted by dialling the helpline number 1075.  A meeting was conducted by the Health Department today in this regard where two students, Ms. Ujwala and Ms. Shreya gave a presentation on Psychological First Aid based on John Hopkins Rapid Model. All Counsellors and Clinical Psychologists of Panchkula were present in the meeting. They were sensitized on COVID – 19 situation and motivated to become volunteers for the helpline No. 1075.

          He said that the counselling and therapy will not only help people in this moment of distress but also help them learn to grow beyond that stress.
