Himachal Pradesh to Witness Rain and Snowfall from January 9
Shimla, January 7, 2024 – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh from January 9 to 11. The forecast comes as a relief to the state, which has been facing a dry spell for the past few months.
On Friday, the weather was clear across the state, with bright sunshine. However, the morning started with fog. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for two days due to fog.
Meanwhile, the people of state are facing increasing difficulties due to dense fog and mist. The entire plain area is experiencing severe cold. Due to fog and mist, visibility is very low, forcing drivers to turn on their headlights even during the day.
People can be seen warming themselves by lighting fires in almost every street, alley, and corner to escape the cold. The state administration has also changed the school timetable for school children. Local shopkeepers in Himachal say that the severe cold has had a significant impact on everyone, from the general public to businesses.
The lowest temperature in Himachal Pradesh was recorded at -11.2 degrees Celsius in Kukumseri, Lahaul-Spiti. The highest temperature in the state was recorded at 21 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar. Similarly, the maximum temperature in Shimla is 13 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 4 degrees Celsius. However, Shimla and Manali have been longing for snowfall this season. Therefore, a western disturbance is approaching Himachal Pradesh from January 8 and there are chances of snowfall and rain.
