2-Day Round Table Conference on Law, Lawyering, and Justice Administration in Shimla
Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, is organising 2-Day Round Table Conference on Law, Lawyering, and Justice Administration: Access to Justice Through Pro-Bono Legal Services from 03-04 December 2022 at the varsity campus in Shimla. The Conference is being organised under the Judicial Reforms initiative of the Ministry of Law and Justice. The university is undertaking a project titled – Role of Pro-Bono Lawyering in Ensuring Access to Justice: A Study with Special Reference to States of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Union Territories of Chandigarh and Jammu & Kashmir sanctioned by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
During the Conference, Prof. Anupama Goel, Professor of Law & Registrar, National Law University, Delhi, Advocate Govind Goel, Advocate on Record, Supreme Court of India, Dr Aman Hingorani, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Prof. M.R.K. Prasad, Principal, V.M. Salgaokar Law College of Law, Goa, Prof. Amarpal Singh, Professor of Law & Dean, USLLS, GGSIP, New Delhi, Prof. Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla, and Prof. G. Mohan Gopal, Professor & Former Director, National Judicial Academy of the Supreme Court of India are participating as panellists. During the first day of the Conference, the panellists discussed the importance of pro-bono lawyering in ensuring access to justice to the marginalized. The panellists further argued the relevance of changes to be made into the curriculum for incorporating the idea of pro-bono lawyering into the minds of students studying law. The discussion included, within its ambit, the idea of reskilling the students and teachers alike for ensuring that the Government’s initiatives are effectively implemented.
The Conference is being organised by Dr Chanchal Kumar Singh, Principal Investigator for the project sanctioned by the Ministry of Law and Justice. The second day of the conference shall discuss the Indian narrative of pro-bono lawyering and the limitations of pro-bono lawyering in access to justice.
