Himachal Pradesh Launches Mobile Veterinary Services and Toll-free Helpline for Farmers

Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has launched two significant initiatives to improve animal healthcare and support farmers in the state. These initiatives are:

  • 1962-Mobile Veterinary Service: This program provides mobile veterinary ambulances equipped with a veterinary doctor and pharmacist to 44 development blocks in the first phase. Farmers can call a toll-free number (1962) for emergency veterinary services at their doorstep.
  • Pashu Sanjeevani Call Centre: This dedicated call center will provide additional support and guidance to farmers regarding animal health concerns.

Enhanced Accessibility and Timely Assistance:

The launch of these services addresses a critical need for accessible and timely veterinary care in rural areas. Farmers facing emergencies can now easily reach qualified professionals without traveling long distances, potentially saving their livestock and livelihoods.

Improved Animal Health and Increased Milk Production:

By providing prompt veterinary care, these initiatives aim to improve animal health, reduce livestock mortality, and ultimately lead to increased milk production. This aligns with the state government’s efforts to strengthen the rural economy and empower farmers.

Additional Initiatives:

The Chief Minister also highlighted other ongoing efforts to support farmers, including:

  • Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Milk: Himachal Pradesh is the first state in India to offer an MSP for milk, with cow milk purchased at Rs 45 per liter and buffalo milk at Rs 55 per liter.
  • Milk Processing Plant: A new milk processing plant with a capacity of 1 lakh 50 thousand liters per day is being established in Kangra district, with the potential to expand to 3 lakh liters per day. This initiative aims to improve milk processing infrastructure and potentially increase farmer income.

Commitment to Rural Development:

These initiatives demonstrate the state government’s commitment to strengthening the rural economy and improving the lives of farmers in Himachal Pradesh. By focusing on accessible veterinary care, fair pricing for milk, and infrastructure development, the government aims to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for the state’s agricultural sector.
