Himachal Pradesh Independent MLAs Issued Notices for Resignation: Response Expected
Three independent MLAs – Hoshiyar Singh, K.L. Thakur, and Ashish Sharma – have been served notices by the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, seeking explanations for their resignations. The notices, issued by the Assembly Secretary, require their presence at the Assembly Committee meeting on April 10th at 12:15 PM. They are mandated to provide a written confirmation of their attendance one day prior to the meeting. Failure to respond to the notices would be construed as an unwillingness to present their case.
These three independent MLAs tendered their resignations to the Assembly Secretary on March 22nd. They subsequently met with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to inform him of their decision, and also submitted their resignations at the residence of Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania. Notably, when the MLAs resigned, opposition leader Jairam Thakur was present within the Assembly premises. During their meeting with the Assembly Speaker, BJP MLAs Balbir Singh Verma and Dr. Janak Raj were also in attendance.
The resignation of the independent MLAs prompted questions from some Congress ministers and legislators, who expressed concerns in writing to the Assembly on March 23rd, questioning whether the resignations were voluntary.
