3 day state Police Sports and Duty Meet, 2023 opened in Dharamsala

The 52nd edition of the Himachal Pradesh Police Sports and Duty Meet, 2023, commenced on November 28, 2023, at the Police Ground in Dharamshala and will continue until November 30, 2023. The inauguration of this significant event was marked by the esteemed presence of the Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla.

The opening ceremony commenced with the stirring rendition of the national anthem by the police band, followed by an impressive march past by participating athletes. Governor Shukla, in his address, emphasized the importance of such events in fostering teamwork among police personnel from various districts. He underscored their role in nurturing dedication to duty within the police department and urged all officers to contribute to combating the issue of drug abuse, particularly among the youth.

The Himachal Pradesh Police Sports and Duty Meet are divided into two segments – the Police Duty Meet and the Police Sports Meet. The participating teams are categorized into four groups – Northern Range, Central Range, Southern Range, and Central Unit. The sports meet encompasses a diverse array of games such as Basketball, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Handball, Football, Cricket, Hockey, Taekwondo, Badminton, and Athletics. Notably, outstanding performances in these events will determine the selection of players and teams for national-level competitions.

Shri Sanjay Kundu, IPS, the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, highlighted the successful execution of the Himachal Pradesh Police Duty Meet at the Police Training College, Daroh, held from November 21 to November 23, 2023.

 Various competition including Computer Awareness, Videography, Photography, Communication, Dog Squad, Anti-Sabotage Check, Scientific Aid to Investigation, Motor Transport and Maintenance, and Commando Competition, were organized during the Duty Meet.

Kundu acknowledged the challenging and demanding routine of police personnel, emphasizing the need for events like these to instill team spirit, discipline, and heightened energy levels among participants. A cultural program featuring the renowned Jhamakra dance of Kangra and Pahari Naati added a vibrant touch to the occasion.

It was noted that owing to Covid restrictions and subsequent Vidhan Sabha elections, the state police sports and duty meet could not be conducted for the past three years. Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania is slated to preside over the closing ceremony on November 30, concluding this long-awaited and significant gathering of the state’s police force.
