The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress party have reached an agreement to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in alliance in the states of Gujarat, Goa, Haryana, and Chandigarh. In Punjab, the two parties will contest the elections separately but with mutual consent.

According to sources, the agreement between the two parties includes the following:

  • In Delhi, the AAP and Congress will contest the elections on a 4/3 formula. The AAP will contest the four seats of New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, and North West Delhi, while the Congress will contest the seats of East Delhi, North East Delhi, and Chandni Chowk.
  • The AAP has made it clear that it will not enter into an alliance only in Delhi. It will have to do so in other states as well (where the AAP also has an influence). After this, it was agreed to give two seats to the AAP in Gujarat and one seat in Haryana. The AAP will contest the Bharuch and Bhavnagar seats in Gujarat. In addition, one seat in Haryana will also go to the AAP.
  • The Chandigarh seat has been agreed to be given to the Congress. After the Supreme Court order, the AAP has become the mayor here, but according to the agreement, the AAP has agreed to support the Congress here. The AAP has also decided to drop its claim on the South Goa seat.

Sources say that a formal announcement will be made soon.
