AAP Haryana Chief Threatens to Release Full Candidate List Amid Uncertainty Over Congress Alliance

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Haryana unit has signaled its readiness to release the full list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections if a decision regarding an alliance with the Congress is not finalized by the end of Monday. Haryana is set to go to the polls for its 90 assembly seats on October 5.

Sushil Gupta, AAP’s state chief for Haryana, stated that the party is fully prepared to contest all seats independently if no agreement on an alliance is reached. “As AAP Haryana chief, I’m preparing for all 90 assembly seats. We haven’t received any confirmation from the high command about an alliance. If we don’t hear back today, we will release our list for all 90 seats by this evening,” Gupta said.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh reiterated the party’s preparedness, noting that the candidate selection process had been completed, with the final list awaiting approval from the party leadership.

Talks regarding a pre-poll alliance between Congress and AAP have been ongoing. AAP MP Raghav Chadha, representing the party in these discussions, expressed optimism over a potential agreement, calling it a “win-win” situation for both parties. Sources have suggested that the two sides reached an initial understanding to jointly contest the elections. However, negotiations appear to have hit a roadblock due to differences over seat-sharing.

Reports indicate that AAP initially requested around 20 seats under the alliance, while Congress was willing to offer seats in the “single digits.” AAP also insisted on securing key constituencies, including Kalayat and at least one seat in Kurukshetra.

While Congress has already announced its second list of nine candidates, bringing the total to 41 for the 90-member Assembly, AAP has yet to release its candidate list, holding back in anticipation of a final decision on the alliance.

With the election date approaching and the alliance talks in flux, AAP’s next move could significantly impact the political landscape of Haryana’s upcoming assembly elections.
