AAP Leader Tarlochan Singh Shot Dead in Ludhiana Village; Police Launch Investigation
An unidentified assailant allegedly shot dead Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Tarlochan Singh at his native Ikolaha village in Ludhiana’s Khanna sub-division on Monday evening, according to police reports.
Singh, who served as AAP’s kisan wing coordinator in Khanna, was discovered dead at approximately 6:45 p.m. Khanna SSP Ashwini Gotyal confirmed that Singh had sustained multiple bullet injuries. An investigation has been initiated into the incident.
Police recovered CCTV footage showing a lone assailant ambushing Singh, who was on his two-wheeler, and opening fire. Preliminary findings indicate Singh received three bullet injuries, including one to the head. SSP Gotyal reported that three bullet shells were found at the scene, and the autopsy report is pending.
Singh, previously affiliated with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), had joined AAP ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections in 2022. He was reportedly preparing to run in the upcoming sarpanch elections from Ikolaha. AAP MLA from Khanna, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, described the incident as a significant loss for the party, highlighting Singh’s active role and connection with local farmers. “The murder appears to be the work of his rivals,” Sond suggested.
Sond recounted receiving a call around 6 p.m. from another party worker informing him that Singh was found injured near the village drain. Despite being rushed to a private hospital and subsequently to Civil Hospital in Khanna, Singh was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Singh’s son, Harpreet Singh, attributed the murder to “rivalry and personal enmity,” noting the severity of his father’s injuries. “My father had two bullet wounds to the head, indicating a deliberate attempt to kill him. I urge the police to apprehend the perpetrators swiftly,” Harpreet Singh stated.
