Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh Appointed as Next IAF Chief
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to welcome a new chief as Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has been appointed to the prestigious position. A seasoned fighter pilot with extensive experience, Air Marshal Singh currently serves as the Vice Chief of the IAF. He is scheduled to take over the reins on September 30, 2024, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari.
Air Marshal Singh’s illustrious career spans nearly four decades, during which he has held various key leadership positions within the IAF. He has commanded both an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base along the borders, showcasing his strategic acumen and operational expertise. His contributions to the IAF have been significant, particularly in the realm of fighter aircraft and test-flying.
One of the most notable achievements in Air Marshal Singh’s career is his role as Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre. In this capacity, he was instrumental in the successful flight testing of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas. His expertise and dedication have been instrumental in the development and advancement of India’s indigenous fighter aircraft program.
Just ten days ago, Air Marshal Singh once again demonstrated his flying prowess by piloting the Tejas fighter jet during the multinational exercise ‘Tarang Shakti’ in Jodhpur. This showcases his continued commitment to staying at the forefront of fighter aircraft operations and his ability to lead from the front.
Air Marshal Singh’s appointment as the next IAF chief comes at a critical time for the Indian Air Force.
