Anil Vij Initiates Construction of Concrete Embankment to Protect Ambala from Tangri River Flooding

Haryana Minister Unveils Project to Strengthen Tangri River Dam, Aims to Prevent Flooding in Ambala

Chandigarh, 01 February: Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labor Minister, Shri Anil Vij, today laid the foundation for the construction of a concrete embankment along the Tangri River at a cost of Rs. 2.67 crore. This initiative, which covers the stretch from Rampur-Sarsehri to Jagadhari Road, aims to prevent the river’s water from entering the city and causing damage.

Concrete Embankment to Safeguard Areas from River Overflow

Shri Anil Vij addressed a gathering after performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the project. He stated that the previous flooding caused significant damage to areas like Rampur-Sarsehri. In response, a temporary earthen embankment was constructed, and now, this will be strengthened with stone pitching and soil reinforcement to create a permanent barrier. Furthermore, the embankment will be extended to the Jagadhari Road to safeguard other vulnerable areas.

Future Plans for River Deepening and Protection Measures

Minister Vij outlined plans to deepen the riverbed to prevent water from spilling into areas like Karadhan, Naggla, Prabhu Prem Puram, and other colonies. As approvals are obtained, work will continue on these projects. The construction of a dam from Jagadhari Road to the railway line will ensure the river’s water does not reach the city. Additionally, once permission from the Mining Department is granted, riverbed sand will be extracted to deepen the river by 15-20 feet.

Expanding Roads for Better Flood Protection

Highlighting the need for better flood protection, Minister Vij emphasized that Tangri River, being a seasonal river flowing through the city, causes flooding during the monsoon season. As part of the project, the road from Babiyal will be widened, further securing the city from potential flooding.

Steps to Close Drainage Issue at Ramgarh Majra

During the ceremony, Minister Vij also instructed the SDM of Ambala Cantt to close a drain that is feeding into the Tangri River from Ramgarh Majra. He warned that if not addressed, the drainage could lead to the river’s water flooding the city. He directed the local administration to put in place additional measures to manage water flow in the area.

Ongoing Infrastructure Development in Ambala

Minister Vij further announced that the tender for cementing the remaining part of Mahesh Nagar Drain has been finalized, with Rs. 24 crore already deposited by the Municipal Corporation to the Irrigation Department.

Warm Reception for Anil Vij at Rampur-Sarsehri

Before the ceremony, Minister Anil Vij received a warm welcome from BJP workers and local residents in Rampur-Sarsehri. He thanked the community for their support and reiterated his commitment to improving the region’s flood management infrastructure.
