Bhagwant Mann Defends Punjabis, Slams BJP’s Remarks Amid Delhi Poll Battle

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a star campaigner for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been at the forefront of Delhi’s electoral battleground. Leading multiple roadshows, Mann has galvanized significant public support, urging voters to deliver a decisive mandate for AAP in the upcoming assembly elections. His spirited campaigning and connection with the masses have unsettled the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose own stalwarts, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are deeply entrenched in the campaign.

Mann’s speeches have tackled pressing social and political issues while taking direct aim at BJP leaders. His presence has consistently drawn large crowds, creating an electrifying atmosphere that highlights AAP’s momentum. This rise in public engagement has reportedly caused jitters in the BJP camp, further intensifying the political rivalry.

A controversy recently emerged after a BJP leader made remarks about Punjabis in Delhi, questioning the presence of vehicles with Punjab registration plates in the national capital. The comment, seen as targeting Punjabis and associating them with security concerns in Delhi, has been widely criticized as divisive and offensive. Mann addressed the issue on social media, calling it an insult to Punjabis across India. In his post, Mann stated, “Delhi is the capital of India, where people from every state live and work. Vehicles from all over the country have the right to move freely. Targeting Punjab-registered vehicles and associating them with security threats is not only an insult to Punjabis but also deeply concerning and unacceptable.”

He further criticized BJP for politicizing national integrity, arguing that Punjabis have always been at the forefront of defending the country. He also questioned the government’s ability to address genuine security issues, citing unchecked migration and its failure to manage larger threats. Mann’s strong response has resonated with many, potentially consolidating AAP’s support among the Punjabi community in Delhi.

The BJP, facing backlash over these remarks, is reportedly scrambling to mitigate the damage. With both parties vying for dominance, the election promises to be a closely contested fight. AAP is focusing on its grassroots connection and governance model, while BJP banks on its national leadership and organizational strength. As the campaign intensifies, the final outcome remains uncertain, but Mann’s impactful presence has undoubtedly added a dynamic element to AAP’s prospects.
