Chandigarh, November 10-

Continuing his crusade to illuminate the lives of youth, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday gave Diwali gifts to 583 youth by handing over appointment letters to them in various departments thereby taking the total tally of jobs to 37683.

Addressing the gathering here after handing over the job letters, the Chief Minister said that the name of these youth will be written in golden words when history of the resurrection and revival of Punjab will be written. He said that these youth are now part of ‘team Punjab’ and it is the bounden responsibility of every youth to work for welfare of the state adding that the  remaining candidates who have not been given job letters will be handed over these letters soon.  Bhagwant Singh Mann said that team work is very important which can be gauged well from the fact that those who had founded cricket have today lost from a novice team just because of the stellar performance of every team mate of the latter.

The Chief Minister said that due to callousness of previous regimes government jobs were earlier a ‘distant dream’ for the youth of the state whereas his government has ensured that youth get the jobs as per their merit for which a transparent mechanism has been evolved. He said that the earlier government lacked the commitment and zeal to serve the masses in true sense due to which these jobs were far away from the youth. However, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that within a year of formation of their government they have given 37683 jobs to the eligible youth completely on merit basis.

Taking a jibe over the recent decision of the Prime Minister to reduce the price of LPG cylinder by Rs 200, the Chief Minister said that after enhancing the price of LPG upto Rs 1100 Modi led government is now rubbing salt into wounds of common man. He said that these leaders are befooling the common man with such tactics which is unfortunate and miserable. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is intolerable and unacceptable adding that people will not get swayed away with these cheap tactics.

The Chief Minister said that he very well knows that ‘idle mind is the devil’s workshop, so every effort is being made to provide jobs to youth so that they remain occupied in work.  He further said that the state government is making concerted efforts to make Punjab a frontrunner state in industrial sectors. He said that due to concerted efforts of the state government investments worth Rs 57,796 crore has been firmed up in the state which will provide 2.98 lakh jobs to youth.

The Chief Minister said that the Punjab government has laid major thrust on the promotion of games in the state. He said that for the first time the state government has given funds to the players for the preparation of games so that they excel in sporting events. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the result of this is that Punjabis have bagged 19 medals in the recently concluded Asian games, which is the highest tally of states in Asiad, since its inception.

The Chief Minister said that it gives him immense pride and satisfaction to announce that by eliminating the word contractual prefixed before the posts of employees the state government has regularized services of 12710 teachers by overcoming all the legal and administrative hiccups. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that with the regularizing of services every year these teachers will get an annual increment of 5% in their salaries coupled with other benefits including holidays. He said that services of many more such employees will be regularized in the coming days for which the process is already on.

The Chief Minister while quoting former President of India Dr Abdul Kalam said that the visionary leader had said that dreams are those which do not allow a person to sleep. He said that in similar manner the dream to carve out a Rangla Punjab, to give jobs to youth, to give impetus to industry and others don’t allow him to sleep. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he will not rest until all his dreams are not fulfilled and Punjab becomes a number one state.

The Chief Minister said that he had invited leaders of political parties to the ‘Main Punjab Boldan Haan’ debate so that every one of them can present their viewpoint on the platform. However, he said that instead of coming here these leaders had preferred to run away by citing frivolous reasons just out of the fear to get exposed for their anti-Punjab stance. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that but he won’t allow these people to escape and their every misdeed will be exposed before the people of the state.

The Chief Minister assailed these leaders for indulging in theatricals to mislead the people of the state. He said that it is a well known fact that the ancestors of these leaders have sown thorns before the Punjab and its younger generations by indulging in these unpardonable crimes against Punjab and Punjabis.  Bhagwant Singh Mann said that for the sake of their vested interests these selfish political leaders had connived with anti-Punjab forces to derail the development of the state.

The Chief Minister said that instead of dividing the people and making them fight on various reasons, his government is making efforts to ensure that the youth of the state vie for government jobs. He said that the state government is committed to check brain drain from the state for which no stone is being left for this noble cause. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the day is not far when the state will soon become a lighthouse for others in every field.

Slamming the turncoat leaders, the Chief Minister said that these opportunist leaders had never been with the people but they had always sided with either Mughals or Britishers or Congress and now with BJP whatever has suited them. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these leaders had always given preference to their own vested interests over that of the state and its people. He said that people will never forgive these people for their unpardonable crime against Punjab and its people adding that they will be taught a befitting lesson for their sins.

The Chief Minister quipped that Akali leader Sukhbir Singh Badal had claimed that he had got plot at Gurugram through a lucky draw. However, he said that why Sukhbir and his family were so lucky to have such prime plots that too in Haryana whereas common Punjabis had never got such plots in draws. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these plots and other incentives were a reward to Sukhbir and his family for treachery against the state.

The Chief Minister exhorted the newly recruited youth to serve the people with missionary zeal as now they have become integral part of the government. Bhagwant Singh Mann hoped that the new recruits will use their pen for helping the needy and underprivileged sections of society. He said that the newly recruited youth should ensure maximum welfare of the public so that every section of society is benefited from it.

On the occasion Cabinet Ministers Harpal Cheema, Brahm Shanker Jimpa, Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Dr. Balbir Singh were also present.
