Bhagwant Mann to Lead AAP’s Campaign in Haryana Amid Kejriwal’s Absence
In the wake of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged excise policy scam, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is poised to take center stage as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) key campaigner in Haryana, particularly for the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat.
With Kejriwal not around, Bhagwant Mann aims to highlight the governance models of Punjab and Delhi to appeal to the electorate in Haryana ahead of the forthcoming elections, according to a senior AAP leader.
The party had strategized a robust outreach campaign under the slogan “Haryana ke lal ne, ek mauka Kejriwal ne” (one chance for Haryana’s son Kejriwal) leading up to the Lok Sabha polls. Kurukshetra emerges as a pivotal battleground for AAP in Haryana, with its nominee Sushil Gupta competing against industrialist-turned-politician Naveen Jindal of the BJP and INLD’s senior leader Abhay Chautala in a triangular contest.
As Kejriwal remains detained in Tihar Jail, Bhagwant Mann is positioned to assume the role of the party’s prime campaigner for the impending Lok Sabha elections. “In the absence of Kejriwal, Mann, being one of the foremost leaders of the party, will leverage the success stories of Punjab and Delhi’s governance to engage the electorate of Haryana ahead of the dual elections,” stated a senior AAP official.
This development underscores AAP’s strategic pivot to strengthen its electoral footing in Haryana amidst Kejriwal’s legal entanglement. Mann’s prominence as a leader and administrator will likely resonate with voters, presenting AAP as a viable alternative in the region.
