“BJP Picks Sanjay Tandon Over Kirron Kher for Chandigarh Seat in Lok Sabha Elections”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a surprising move by nominating former Chandigarh unit chief Sanjay Tandon as its candidate for the Union Territory, replacing incumbent MP and actor Kirron Kher. Kher, who represented Chandigarh in 2014 and 2019, has been replaced despite her previous victories.
Tandon, who also serves as the co-in charge of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, brings extensive experience as he has served as the city party president for nearly a decade. The decision to nominate Tandon came after the city party unit forwarded the names of former MP Satya Pal Jain, along with ex-party presidents Sanjay Tandon and Arun Sood, to the party’s high command for consideration.
The selection process involved consultations conducted by Manthri Srinivasulu, the general secretary (organisation) for Punjab and Chandigarh. One-on-one meetings were held with local leaders and councillors on February 26 to gauge their preferences for the candidate to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
