Budget 2024-25: Farmers’ loan waiver and focus on GYAN

The Haryana government on Friday presented its budget for the financial year 2024-25, with a focus on providing relief to farmers and promoting growth in key sectors.

The budget, presented by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced a loan waiver of Rs 1,739 crore for farmers who have taken loans from primary agricultural cooperative societies (PACS) up to September 30, 2023.

The waiver, which will benefit around 5.43 lakh farmers, is expected to provide much-needed relief to the farming community, which has been hit hard by rising input costs and falling crop prices.

In addition to the loan waiver, the budget also announced a number of other measures to support farmers, including:

  • A provision of Rs 500 crore for the development of agriculture infrastructure
  • A subsidy of Rs 5,000 per acre for farmers who adopt micro-irrigation systems
  • A scheme to provide free electricity to farmers for irrigation

The budget also focused on promoting growth in key sectors such as education, health, and industry.

In the education sector, the budget announced a number of measures to improve the quality of education, including:

  • A provision of Rs 1,000 crore for the construction of new schools and colleges
  • A scheme to provide free laptops to students of government schools
  • A scholarship scheme for meritorious students

In the health sector, the budget announced a number of measures to improve healthcare facilities, including:

  • A provision of Rs 500 crore for the construction of new hospitals and dispensaries
  • A scheme to provide free health insurance to poor families
  • A scheme to provide free medicines to patients in government hospitals

In the industry sector, the budget announced a number of measures to promote investment and growth, including:

  • A reduction in the rate of value-added tax (VAT) on a number of items
  • A scheme to provide subsidies to new industries
  • A scheme to provide land on lease to industries

The budget was welcomed by farmers and other stakeholders.

The Haryana Kisan Sabha, a farmers’ union, said that the loan waiver was a “historic decision” that would provide much-needed relief to farmers.

The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) said that the budget was “growth-oriented” and would boost economic activity in the state.

The budget is expected to have a positive impact on the economy of Haryana and improve the lives of its citizens.
