Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has provided reassurance that his government will intervene in the cases of approximately 700 Indian students currently facing deportation in Canada due to alleged fraudulent college admission offer letters. The students have been protesting, claiming they were deceived by their immigration agency in India regarding their admissions.
During a Parliament debate, Prime Minister Trudeau stated, “We are deeply aware of the cases of international students facing removal orders over fraudulent college acceptance letters. To be clear, our focus is on identifying the culprits, not penalizing the victims.”
India’s Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, confirmed that the Indian government has raised the issue with Canadian authorities and expressed the need for action against those responsible for misleading the students. Minister Jaishankar emphasized, “If there were people who misled them (the students), the culpable parties should be acted upon.”
The assurance from Prime Minister Trudeau signals the Canadian government’s commitment to addressing the situation and investigating the fraudulent practices surrounding the admission process. The focus appears to be on holding the perpetrators accountable rather than penalizing the affected students.
The issue of deportation and fraudulent college admissions has garnered attention and concern, prompting both Indian and Canadian officials to address the matter and work towards resolving it in a fair and just manner.
