Central University Professor Detained on Rape Charges

In a grave incident at the Shahpur campus of Central University, Himachal, a PhD student has leveled rape allegations against a university professor. The police, upon receiving the complaint from the victim, have swiftly registered a case and initiated investigative procedures.

The individual accused, 44-year-old Professor Rajinder, is associated with the Chemistry department at Central University. It is alleged by the victim that on the pretext of meeting on the day of Holi, she was called to a private hotel by the professor. It was during this encounter that the professor was accused of committing the assault.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kangra district, Shalini Agnihotri confirmed that based on the student’s statement, a case has been registered under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Shahpur Police Station. The accused, Rajinder, a resident of Palampur and a faculty member at Central University, has been detained for further questioning.

Prior to the arrest, the police conducted a medical examination of the student as part of the investigation process.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad( ABVP ) has also submitted a memorandum to the Registrar in this context and has demanded immediate justice for the victim student along with dismissal of the concerned  teacher.

Unit incharge  of ABVP, Heena Verma said that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad believes that this incident should be investigated and it also  demands  immediate action by the administration regarding this incident so that such incidents do not happen in future.

This case brings to light serious concerns regarding student safety and faculty conduct within academic institutions, prompting a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victim.
