CEO Chairs State Steering Committee Meeting for Inclusive Lok Sabha Elections 2024
The Chief Electoral Officer, Manish Garg, led a meeting of the State Steering Committee on Accessible Elections to discuss strategies for ensuring the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections-2024 are barrier-free for persons with disabilities (PwD). The Election Department reported the identification of 55,420 PwD voters in the state out of approximately 67,000, with ongoing efforts to identify the remaining eligible voters. Various initiatives, including the use of technology such as the Saksham App, were highlighted to facilitate registration and accessibility for PwD voters. The department emphasized creating awareness materials, like videos with Hindi sub-titles and sign language hoardings, to enhance the participation of PwD voters. The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized the provision of essential facilities and specialized training for polling personnel to meet the needs of PwD voters at all polling stations in the state. The meeting aimed to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive electoral process, encouraging all eligible specially-abled individuals to actively participate in the voting process.
