Chandigarh Administration Emphasizes Renovation and Upgradation of Health & Wellness Centers to Set a Model for the Country

Chandigarh, July 7:

In a bid to transform the health infrastructure and services in Chandigarh, the Adviser to the Administrator emphasized the need for renovating, upgrading, and modernizing all Health & Wellness Centers (HWCs) in the Union Territory (UT). The objective is to make Chandigarh a role model for the rest of the country in terms of efficient healthcare delivery. The Chandigarh Administration envisions the HWCs as the focal points for providing various health services, except for cases requiring physical presence at major hospitals. Over a dozen HWCs have already been renovated and upgraded in the past year, with ongoing work at remaining locations. The inauguration of more upgraded HWCs is scheduled for the coming days.

During a visit to the HWCs, the Adviser inspected the e-registrations of patients, tele-consultation services, generation of health IDs, and the implementation of various health schemes. Dignitaries planted saplings at HWC Mauli Village and HWC CITCO, symbolizing the commitment to environmental sustainability. In response to a request from a Municipal Councilor, the feasibility of opening HWCs during evening hours in densely populated areas will be examined. The Adviser commended the efforts of the Health Department in ensuring the efficient functioning of the Health and Wellness Centers.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the Adviser also assessed the cleanliness and maintenance of nearby markets, public parks, and roads. He engaged in discussions with four Municipal Councilors to address pending issues in their respective wards.

Today, on July 7, 2023, Dr. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, inaugurated four upgraded Health and Wellness Centers:

  1. HWC Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra
  2. HWC Mauli Jagran
  3. HWC Mauli Village
  4. HWC Industrial Area Phase-1

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sh. Yashpal Garg, IAS, Health Secretary, UT, Shri Akhil Kumar, Additional Secretary Health, Sh. Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health and Family Welfare cum Mission Director, Dr. V.K. Nagpal, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Paramjit Singh, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Charru Singla, Nodal Officer, NHM, along with prominent members of the Resident Welfare Association and Municipal Councilors Mrs. Sarabjeet Kaur, Shri Manoj Kumar, Shri Harjeet Singh, and Mrs. Bimla Dubey.

The inauguration marked another milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services and infrastructure in Chandigarh, reinforcing the commitment of the administration to provide accessible and quality healthcare to the residents.
