Chandigarh Administration Strengthens Medical Infrastructure with New Hostel Block for MBBS Students
In a significant move to boost medical infrastructure in U.T. Chandigarh, the Chandigarh Administration has consistently prioritized the improvement of medical facilities, including hostels within the medical sector. The Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, led the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Hostel Block for MBBS Students at GMCH campus, Sector-48, U.T. Chandigarh.
The ceremony, graced by Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Chandigarh, Sh. Rajeev Verma, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, and other dignitaries, marks a crucial step in fortifying the medical infrastructure of Chandigarh. The new Hostel Block, spanning 2,40,750 sq. ft. and costing Rs. 50.00 Crore, is projected to be completed in two years.
The 6-storied structure with a basement will address the shortage of hostel facilities for MBBS students. With separate blocks for boys and girls, the hostel is designed to accommodate 287 boys and 287 girls. The building includes provisions for 149 car parking spaces in the basement, along with facilities like lifts, a kitchen, dining hall, ramps, and staircases for easy student movement.
This initiative reflects the Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for medical education. The new hostel facility is anticipated to alleviate the shortage of accommodation for MBBS students, contributing to the overall enhancement of medical education and facilities in U.T. Chandigarh.
