Chandigarh RED RUN: Secretary Health Ajay Chagti Flags Off 5km Awareness Run Against HIV/AIDS
Chandigarh, September 21, 2024: The Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society (CSACS) successfully organized the ‘RED RUN,’ a 5 km awareness run aimed at combating HIV/AIDS, at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. Approximately 250 students from 25 colleges across the city participated in the run, which served as a platform to educate and engage young people about HIV/AIDS prevention and promote healthy lifestyles.
The event was flagged off by Sh. Ajay Chagti, IAS, Secretary Health, Chandigarh Administration, and Dr. Suman, Director Health Services, Chandigarh Administration. The officials emphasized the importance of staying away from drugs and adopting a healthy lifestyle. They also highlighted the availability of the 24×7 national toll-free helpline number 1097 for inquiries and information related to HIV/AIDS.
The RED RUN featured a competitive aspect with prizes awarded to the top performers. In the male category, Manpreet from SD College-32 secured the 1st position, followed by Surjeet and Ritesh Kumar from SD College-32 and GC-50, respectively. In the female category, Sadhana from DAV-10 claimed 1st place, with Shreya and Preeti from SD College-32 taking the 2nd and 3rd positions.
The Project Director of CSACS expressed gratitude to the Programme Officers of various departments, including Health, Police, Tourism, CITCO, Education, and media personnel, for their invaluable support in making the RED RUN a successful event.
HIV/AIDS: Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a chronic and life-threatening condition caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV attacks the immune system, making individuals susceptible to infections and diseases that would normally not affect a healthy person. While there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, effective treatment can help manage the condition and improve quality of life.
The RED RUN played a crucial role in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, promoting prevention measures, and encouraging healthy lifestyles among the youth of Chandigarh. By engaging students from various colleges, the event reached a wide audience and contributed to the ongoing efforts to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in the region.
