The Constitution Day celebration at Kurukshetra University became a hallmark event as Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini joined the state-level Amrit Mahotsav ceremony. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the state’s commitment to advancing democratic principles in line with the Constitution’s essence through progressive social and economic policies. The event celebrated the adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949, which has since symbolized justice, equality, and the unity of India.
At the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated an exhibition organized by the Information, Public Relations, Language, and Culture Department. The exhibition showcased India’s constitutional journey, paying homage to the architects of the Constitution, including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He highlighted that the Constitution’s preamble, especially the phrase “We the People,” encapsulates the spirit of unity, integrity, and faith in democracy.
In his speech, the Chief Minister lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in reinforcing India’s democratic ethos and highlighted key reforms, including the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A. He called these measures milestones in realizing the vision of a unified India, a tribute to national icons like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister urged the youth to participate in constitutional discussions to develop a deeper understanding of their duties and rights. He also emphasized the need for introspection among institutions functioning under the Constitution to evaluate their adherence to its principles.
Prominent speakers at the event echoed these sentiments. Kashmiri Lal, the keynote speaker, described the Indian Constitution as the world’s largest written Constitution, crediting it for maintaining India’s democratic stability amid global challenges. He also reflected on historical instances, like the Emergency in 1975, underlining the resilience of India’s democratic framework.
Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Somnath Sachdeva praised the Constitution as a unique blend of governance principles and cultural heritage. He pointed out the artistic and historical significance reflected in the document, calling it a symbol of India’s soul.
The event also featured prize distributions to students who excelled in competitions commemorating Constitution Day. The Chief Minister led the audience in reciting the Preamble, reaffirming their commitment to constitutional values.
The celebration, attended by dignitaries including Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, former Minister Subhash Sudha, and students in large numbers, became an inspiring moment to honor India’s democratic legacy and vision.
