Manali’s Winter Carnival Blazes with Color, Culture, and Government Announcements

Manali, Himachal Pradesh: The picturesque town of Manali came alive with vibrant festivities as Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the five-day National Level Winter Carnival on January 2nd, 2024. The carnival promises a colorful blend of cultural performances, adventure sports, and a celebration of the region’s rich heritage.

A Carnival of Culture and Tradition:

The opening ceremony witnessed a grand parade featuring over 250 Mahila Mandals (women’s groups) and cultural troupes from various states. The parade was a kaleidoscope of colors and traditions, showcasing the diverse cultures of Himachal Pradesh and beyond.

Chief Minister Sukhu also inaugurated the cultural program at Manu Rangshala, the main stage for the carnival’s festivities. Over the next five days, the stage will come alive with performances by 25 cultural groups from across India, along with star-studded nights featuring renowned artists.

Empowering Women and Boosting Tourism:

Recognizing the vital role women play in the community, the Chief Minister announced a significant increase in the ‘Protsahan Raashi’ (incentive) for Mahila Mandals. From Rs. 20,000, the incentive has been raised to Rs. 25,000, providing much-needed support for their various initiatives.

Furthermore, Sukhu pledged his commitment to enhancing tourism infrastructure in Manali. He announced a provision of Rs. 10 crore for a new bridge near Pandrah Mile, streamlining transportation and accessibility. Additionally, the Rohtang Manalsu Tourism Hotel will undergo renovation, making it a more attractive destination for visitors.

Remembering Resilience and Building a Brighter Future:

The Chief Minister also took a moment to acknowledge the challenges faced by Kullu district in the wake of the 2023 disaster. He recounted the devastating impact on the region and highlighted the state government’s swift response in providing relief and rehabilitation. He emphasized the importance of learning from such experiences and building resilience for the future.

Looking Ahead with Optimism:

Despite the challenges, Sukhu painted a picture of optimism for the future. He announced the launch of the second phase of the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-Up Scheme, focusing on solar power projects. This initiative aims to empower youth entrepreneurs and contribute to sustainable energy development.

The Chief Minister also unveiled a new scheme for ‘Divyang’ (disabled) children, launched on January 1st, 2024. The scheme aims to provide comprehensive education and training opportunities through a world-class institute, fostering their potential and inclusion in society.

A Collaborative Effort for Progress:

Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh commended the Winter Carnival as a platform for showcasing Manali’s rich cultural heritage and empowering women. He lauded the Chief Minister’s leadership during the disaster and his dedication to tourism development in the region.

MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur expressed his appreciation for the Chief Minister’s prompt response to the disaster and his generous contribution to the relief fund. He also highlighted the ongoing development projects in Manali, including the construction of the Manali Bypass and the upcoming ice skating rink project.

A Celebration for All:

The Manali Winter Carnival is not just a tourist attraction, but a celebration of the local community’s spirit and resilience. With its focus on culture, tradition, and empowerment, the carnival promises to be a memorable event for everyone involved.
