Chief Minister Sukhu Pays Tribute to Former PM Rajiv Gandhi on Birth Anniversary, Leads Sadbhavana Diwas Pledge

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu honored former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary by offering floral tributes at his statue at Rajiv Chowk, Chhota Shimla. The occasion, marked as Sadbhavana Diwas, was observed statewide to promote goodwill and harmony.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Sukhu administered the Sadbhavana Diwas pledge to the officers and officials of the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat. In his speech, Sukhu highlighted Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions as the “architect of modern India,” emphasizing his role in ushering in IT reforms that paved the way for India’s leadership in the global technology sector. Sukhu also acknowledged Rajiv Gandhi’s significant achievements, including lowering the voting age from 21 to 18, which enabled greater youth participation in the democratic process.

Chief Minister Sukhu credited Rajiv Gandhi for championing women’s empowerment, noting his instrumental role in securing 33% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions. He further commended Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for advocating for a similar 33% reservation for women in state legislatures and Parliament.

The event saw the participation of several dignitaries, including Health Minister Dr. Dhani Ram Shandil, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, and Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Pratibha Singh, alongside other key leaders and officials. Their presence underscored the importance of the occasion and the enduring legacy of Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions to India’s progress.
