CM Bhagwant Mann Promises Monthly Allowance for Women and Agricultural Reforms in Sangrur Rally

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann addressed a lively gathering in Dhuri, Sangrur, as part of his ongoing election campaign. During his speech, Mann reiterated his commitment to providing a monthly allowance of Rs. 1,100 to women, a promise he assured will soon be fulfilled.

Mann highlighted the government’s efforts to improve agricultural irrigation by extending canal water to farmlands. “We are working diligently to bring canal water to the fields, which will help save groundwater by reducing reliance on tube wells,” he explained. The CM revealed an ambitious plan to achieve 70% canal water coverage for irrigation. “If successful, we could potentially shut down around 5 lakh of the 14.5 lakh tube wells in Punjab,” he stated.

The Chief Minister pointed out the financial benefits of this initiative, noting that the government currently spends Rs. 18,000 crore on electricity subsidies for paddy cultivation. “By reducing the number of active tube wells, we can save between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 7,000 crore,” Mann said. These savings, he assured, would be redirected to fund the monthly allowance for women. “We initially promised Rs. 1,000 per month, but we are now committed to providing Rs. 1,100,” he announced to the cheering crowd.

Mann emphasized the sustainability of the scheme, assuring that once the monthly payments begin, they will not stop. “If we intended to use this scheme for electoral gain, we could have launched it two months before the elections and discontinued it afterward, as previous governments have done,” he remarked. “However, our approach is different. Once we start this program, it will continue permanently.”

The Chief Minister’s speech also touched upon the broader economic and social benefits of his policies. By optimizing water usage and reducing energy consumption, the government aims to create a more sustainable agricultural sector while simultaneously improving the financial well-being of women in Punjab.

In conclusion, Mann’s rally in Sangrur was marked by his commitment to both women’s empowerment and agricultural reform. His promises and plans are poised to bring significant changes to the state’s irrigation practices and provide much-needed financial support to women, ensuring long-term benefits for Punjab’s economy and society.
