CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Urges Villagers to Elect Unanimous Panchayats for Holistic Development
Satauj (Sangrur), October 3: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has called upon the residents of the state to reject candidates employing money and muscle power during the upcoming panchayat elections. Speaking at a gathering in his native village, the Chief Minister emphasized that panchayat elections form the bedrock of democracy in India, enabling grassroots participation and ensuring the voice of the people is heard.
During his address, Mann encouraged villagers to reach a consensus on candidates for the panchayats, thereby reinforcing the democratic process and contributing to the holistic development of rural areas. He reiterated the commitment of the state government to conduct these elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.
Notably, the Chief Minister announced that panchayat elections in Punjab will be contested without party symbols. This landmark decision aims to eliminate factionalism and promote comprehensive development within villages. He stated, “Debarring candidates from contesting on party symbols is a significant step toward ensuring public interest.”
In a move to incentivize unity among villagers, Mann declared that any village that elects its panchayat unanimously will receive a grant of ₹5 lakh. The funds can be utilized for vital infrastructure such as stadiums, schools, or hospitals, depending on the specific needs of the community. He urged the residents to set a precedent for the state by electing their panchayat unanimously and highlighted his unwavering efforts for the development of his own village. He promised that there would be no shortage of funds for the village’s growth, envisioning it as a model for other communities in Punjab.
Mann stressed the importance of strengthening the panchayati raj system, asserting that intelligent and honest individuals must be elected to lead. He expressed his belief that these initiatives would yield positive results, ultimately benefiting the populace. The Chief Minister emphasized that enhancing rural areas requires significant financial investment and that his government will leave no stone unturned in this endeavor.
Addressing poverty in the state, Mann remarked that mere rhetoric from leaders would not eradicate it. Instead, empowering the common man through education and job opportunities is essential. “Education is the key to elevating people’s standards of living,” he stated, highlighting that over 44,000 jobs have been provided to youth in Punjab thus far.
The Chief Minister affirmed that panchayats serve as the foundation of democracy and that their role must be reinforced. “Sarpanchs should be elected for the benefit of villages, not for political parties or factions,” he said, envisioning panchayats as catalysts for village development and prosperity.
Mann noted that several villages have already successfully elected panchayats unanimously, and he expressed hope that this trend would spread to more communities. He reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating peaceful elections and providing a complete facelift to villages across Punjab.
In a significant political stance, Mann asserted that any central law detrimental to the interests of Punjab’s residents will not be implemented in the state. He pledged that the government would protect the rights and interests of its people, ensuring that no individual or entity could compromise the welfare of the state and its residents.
