CM Mann Accelerates Punjab’s Health Revolution by Dedicating 30 New Aam Aadmi Clinics: Over 2.07 Crore Patients Benefit From Free Treatment

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann continues to make significant strides in the state’s healthcare sector by dedicating 30 new Aam Aadmi Clinics to the public, taking the total number of operational clinics to 872. The latest clinics, inaugurated on Monday, September 23, aim to provide quality primary healthcare services to more citizens, with a strong focus on affordability and accessibility.

The newly dedicated clinics include five in Bathinda, two in Hoshiarpur, seven in Mansa, three in Moga, six in Patiala, five in SAS Nagar, and two in Sri Muktsar Sahib. These facilities are part of a larger initiative to enhance Punjab’s healthcare infrastructure by offering free medical services and reducing the financial burden on the state’s residents.

The Aam Aadmi Clinics are designed to offer a range of essential healthcare services at no cost. According to CM Mann, a total of 80 types of medicines and 38 diagnostic tests are provided free of charge at these clinics, making them a cornerstone of the state’s efforts to deliver high-quality primary care. Since the launch of the clinics, they have seen an overwhelming response, with more than 2.07 crore patients availing free treatment across Punjab.

In addition to medical consultations, the clinics have conducted over 72 lakh free diagnostic tests, significantly easing the out-of-pocket expenses for patients. The Chief Minister highlighted that these clinics have helped save Punjab’s residents an estimated ₹1,050 crore in healthcare costs. This figure reflects the substantial financial relief for individuals who would otherwise have to bear the cost of essential medicines and diagnostic services.

Recognizing the importance of making healthcare more affordable, the Punjab government has launched a special campaign to ensure that all prescribed medicines are available at secondary health facilities throughout the state. CM Mann emphasized that Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) have been given the authority to procure necessary drugs at the local level. Simultaneously, the centralized procurement system for drugs and medical supplies is being strengthened to maintain a steady and sufficient supply chain. This initiative alone has contributed to an additional estimated savings of ₹102.98 crore in out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

Further enhancing Punjab’s healthcare services, the Chief Minister announced that free X-ray and ultrasound facilities are now being provided at all secondary healthcare facilities in the state. To meet growing demand, the government has empaneled 512 private X-ray and ultrasound centers, offering these services at nominal, government-fixed rates. This development complements the existing services provided by government-run facilities, ensuring that patients can access essential diagnostic tests without the heavy financial burden. The demand for these services has surged, with daily ultrasound procedures increasing from 650 to 1,350, and daily X-ray tests rising from 3,000 to 4,200.

As of now, over 7.52 lakh patients have benefited from these diagnostic services. This includes 5.67 lakh patients who availed of X-ray services and 1.85 lakh who received ultrasound examinations. This surge in diagnostic services underlines the success of the state’s initiative to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for everyone, particularly for economically disadvantaged sections of the population.

Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Clinics are not only improving the state’s healthcare outcomes but also reducing the financial burden on its citizens. With a continued focus on expanding healthcare access, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s administration remains committed to revolutionizing the healthcare landscape in Punjab. These efforts ensure that every resident of the state, regardless of income, has access to quality healthcare services without worrying about the cost.

Through these clinics and other healthcare reforms, the Punjab government aims to set a new standard for primary care, ensuring that all citizens receive timely, efficient, and cost-effective medical treatment. This initiative is a testament to the state’s dedication to improving the well-being of its people, bringing high-quality healthcare to every doorstep.
