Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has strongly criticized the Punjab government for its handling of the ongoing tensions with farmers in the state. He revealed that he had repeatedly advised the Punjab government to engage directly with the farmers, listen to their grievances, and assure them that all crops would be procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Saini emphasized that farmers are the “sons of the soil” who feed the nation and deserve respect and support from the government. He urged the Punjab government to prioritize the well-being of farmers and provide them with necessary relief.
In a stern appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Saini condemned the use of force against farmers and called for open dialogues instead. He insisted that the state government should focus on empowering farmers rather than resorting to lathi charges to suppress their protests. Responding to a question about the supply of seeds and fertilizers, Saini assured that Haryana has implemented stringent measures to prevent fraud against farmers. He highlighted that only certified seeds are now being provided to farmers in the state to safeguard their interests.
The political climate in Punjab has heated up due to the ongoing conflict between the Aam Aadmi Party government and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). Opposition parties have seized the opportunity to target the state government. In this backdrop, CM Saini’s criticism of the Punjab government’s actions has added fuel to the fire. Saini accused the Punjab government of provoking farmers instead of addressing their legitimate demands. He expressed solidarity with the farming community, stating that, as a farmer’s son himself, he fully understands their pain and struggles.
Saini contrasted the Punjab government’s actions with Haryana’s pro-farmer policies. He pointed out that Haryana was the first state to procure 14 crops at MSP and has now extended this benefit to 100% of the state’s crops. This, according to him, demonstrates Haryana’s commitment to protecting the interests of farmers and ensuring their financial stability.
Meanwhile, farmers in Punjab have clarified that their demands are directed at the Punjab government, not the Center. The SKM has invited CM Bhagwant Mann for an open debate and announced protests outside the residences of Punjab’s ministers and MLAs on March 10 from 11 AM to 3 PM. CM Saini’s comments come at a time when tensions are running high, with farmers threatening to intensify their protests if their demands are not met.
Saini reiterated that the Punjab government must adopt a more empathetic approach and resolve the crisis through meaningful dialogue rather than force. He emphasized that ensuring the supply of certified seeds and fertilizers is a fundamental responsibility of the state government. His remarks underline a clear message to the Punjab government to focus on resolving the crisis by building trust with farmers.
As the situation continues to evolve, CM Saini’s strong stance is likely to influence the political dynamics between Haryana and Punjab, especially on issues related to agriculture and farmers’ welfare. His statements reflect a strategic positioning to highlight Haryana’s farmer-friendly policies in contrast to what he described as the Punjab government’s failure to effectively address farmers’ concerns.
