Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched a scathing attack on the previous BJP government during his address at Shahpur, accusing it of inaction on the issue of drug abuse and mismanagement of the education sector. He criticized Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur for his statements on drug control, pointing out that despite being in power for five years, the BJP failed to implement the PIT-NDPS Act to curb drug trafficking and abuse. In contrast, CM Sukhu claimed that the present government’s stringent measures have reduced drug abuse by 30 percent, with properties acquired through the drug trade being seized.
The Chief Minister also alleged that the BJP’s policies had led to a significant decline in the state’s education standards. However, after two years of corrective measures by the current administration, Himachal Pradesh has regained the top spot in the national education survey. As part of ongoing reforms, CM Sukhu announced the establishment of a unified education directorate for classes from nursery to 12th standard and the construction of three Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools to enhance rural education infrastructure.
These developments reflect the government’s dual focus on improving education and eliminating the drug menace to build a prosperous and progressive Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Minister’s strong remarks against the BJP have sparked a heated political debate in the state, with education and public safety emerging as key issues ahead of the next elections.
