CM Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Inaugurates ₹184 Crore Development Projects in Hamirpur, Announces Multipurpose Sports Complex in Nadaun
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu took a significant step toward enhancing the infrastructure and promoting the welfare of Hamirpur district by inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for various development projects worth ₹184 crore. These projects, aimed at boosting the local economy and empowering the youth, reflect the state government’s commitment to progress and the well-being of its citizens.
Inauguration of Multipurpose Sports Complex in Nadaun
The highlight of the day was the foundation stone laying ceremony for a state-of-the-art Multipurpose Sports Complex at Kharidi in Nadaun. This ambitious project, with a budget of ₹65 crore, is set to become a beacon of athletic excellence. The complex will feature an eight-lane swimming pool, a modern shooting range, and facilities for wrestling, boxing, Kabaddi, yoga, table tennis, and badminton. The Chief Minister emphasized that this facility is part of a broader state initiative to construct similar sports complexes across Himachal Pradesh, aimed at channelizing the energy of the youth into productive and healthy pursuits.
In his address, Chief Minister Sukhu underlined the critical role of sports in the holistic development of youth. He noted that such facilities would not only nurture talent but also serve as a deterrent against drug abuse by promoting a healthy lifestyle. “This sports complex will stand as a testament to our commitment to fostering talent and ensuring the physical and mental well-being of our young generation,” he said.
Empowering Farmers Through Knowledge and Skill Development
In addition to sports infrastructure, Chief Minister Sukhu laid the foundation for two farmers’ training centers, one at Dhanpur (Bara) and another at the Agriculture Complex in Hamirpur. These centers, being developed at a cost of ₹4.50 crore, are envisioned as hubs of knowledge dissemination and skill development for farmers. The training programs will cover essential areas such as minor irrigation techniques, crop diversification, and advanced vegetable production methods.
Moreover, these centers will play a pivotal role in the formation and strengthening of Krishak Vikas Associations (KVAs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), transforming them into sustainable business entities. The Chief Minister expressed that these initiatives are designed to empower farmers with the latest knowledge and skills, enabling them to adopt modern agricultural practices and improve their livelihoods.
Road Infrastructure Improvements in Hamirpur
In an effort to enhance the transportation network in Hamirpur, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for the widening and strengthening of five key roads in the district. These include the ₹35 crore Pattha-Salauni-Deothsidh road, ₹49 crore Rangas-Kangu-Dhaneta road, ₹5.67 crore Gandiyan-Badaitar road, and the Paniyala-Kashmir & Dhaneta-Barsar roads, which will be upgraded at a cost of ₹16 crore. These projects aim to provide better connectivity and more efficient transportation facilities for the residents, contributing to the overall economic development of the region.
Centre of Excellence for Agriculture and Horticulture
Another significant project inaugurated by the Chief Minister was the Centre of Excellence at Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Bara, developed at a cost of ₹1.31 crore. This facility is dedicated to providing high-quality vegetable saplings to farmers in Hamirpur district and surrounding areas. With an annual production capacity of 3.50 lakh saplings, the center will cover 1,400 hectares of agricultural land, supporting progressive farmers in their efforts to enhance productivity and sustainability.
The Chief Minister also reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to strengthening the rural economy. He announced that the government would purchase naturally grown wheat at ₹40 per kg and maize at ₹30 per kg. In addition, the minimum support price for cow milk has been increased from ₹32 to ₹45 per liter, and for buffalo milk from ₹47 to ₹55 per liter. To further support the dairy sector, a state-of-the-art milk processing plant is being established at Daghwar in Kangra district, with an investment of ₹250 crore. This fully automated facility will have an initial capacity of 1.50 lakh liters per day (LLPD), with the potential to expand to three LLPD in the future.
Advancements in Horticulture Education
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed PG Block at the College of Horticulture and Forestry in Neri, completed at a cost of ₹3.46 crore. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for a new Girls Hostel at the college, which will be built at a cost of ₹3.62 crore. These initiatives are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational infrastructure in the region, providing students with modern facilities and a conducive learning environment.
Government’s Commitment to Progress
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sukhu reiterated the state government’s commitment to comprehensive development and progress. He highlighted that the projects inaugurated today are part of a broader vision to uplift the rural economy, empower farmers, and provide the youth with opportunities to excel in sports and academics.
