Congress-BJP War of Words Escalates Over Himachal Pradesh’s Financial Health

Congress defends fiscal management amidst BJP’s accusations of financial mismanagement

A war of words has erupted between the Congress and the BJP in Himachal Pradesh over the state’s financial situation. The BJP has accused the Congress government of financial mismanagement, alleging that the state’s economy has been pushed to the brink, making it difficult to manage day-to-day operations. Pointing to financial irregularities, the BJP claims that the state is facing severe economic challenges due to Congress’ policies, particularly the appointment of numerous advisors and chairpersons for boards and corporations, which they argue has added an unnecessary financial burden.

Responding to these allegations, Naresh Chauhan, Media Advisor to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has firmly denied the BJP’s claims, accusing them of spreading negative propaganda to mislead the public about the state’s financial health. Chauhan emphasized that while there are challenges, the state is not on the verge of bankruptcy, as suggested by the BJP.

He acknowledged the financial constraints, particularly the reduced loan-raising limits, the cessation of the GST grant, and the decline in the revenue deficit grant. Chauhan called for a collective effort to improve the state’s financial health and to devise a strategic roadmap for generating resources. He dismissed BJP’s allegations about potential delays in salaries and pensions for state employees and retirees as sensationalist and ungrounded.

The Congress, while acknowledging the financial crisis, remains confident in its ability to manage the situation. Chauhan reiterated that the government is exploring all options to address these challenges and ensure that the state continues to function smoothly without causing undue hardship to the people.

This ongoing exchange highlights the deep political divide between the two parties, with the BJP continuing to scrutinize Congress’ fiscal policies, while Congress defends its position, focusing on long-term solutions for the state’s economic recovery.
