Former Congress MP Mohinder Singh KP has joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today. The president of Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, himself welcomed him into the party. It’s noteworthy that the announcement of Charnjit Channi as the candidate from Jalandhar by the Congress has stirred discontent among Congress leaders in Jalandhar. Prior to this, both Tejinder Singh Bittu and Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, wife of DVG Sankarar Chaudhary, have joined the BJP. Meanwhile, Mohinder Singh KP’s inclusion in the SAD has dealt another significant blow to the Congress. Speculations are rife that the SAD might field KP from Jalandhar.

Moreover, if the Shiromani Akali Dal grants a ticket to veteran leader Mohinder Singh KP from Jalandhar, the electoral battle this time will be particularly intriguing. This is because the Aam Aadmi Party has nominated Pawan Tinu, who previously joined from the Shiromani Akali Dal, as its candidate, while the Congress has announced former CM Charnjit Channi as its candidate, and Sushil Kumar Rinku, who switched from AAP to BJP, has been named as the BJP candidate. It’s worth mentioning that Mohinder Singh KP has been a Congress MP from Jalandhar in 2009 and has also served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab twice.
