“Congress Rebels Receive Threats Amid Disqualification: Security Heightened”
Disqualified Congress MLAs Rajinder Rana and Sudhir Sharma have reportedly received handwritten threat letters, urging them to cease provoking other legislators, as stated by Rana’s son, Abhishek, on Wednesday.
The one-page letter, written in Hindi, warned Rana and Sharma against their actions, cautioning that if they continue to provoke other lawmakers, their family’s safety would be compromised. The letter, perceived as a final warning, was delivered to Rana’s residence in Patlander near Sujanpur, Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh, via post on Tuesday evening.
Rana and Sharma are among the six Congress rebels who were disqualified for defying a whip during a crucial session, where they voted in favor of the government on a cut motion and the finance bill (Budget). Their support for the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls led to their disqualification.
Abhishek Rana confirmed the reception of the letter and disclosed that the family had also received a threatening phone call, warning of dire consequences if they failed to adhere to certain behavioral standards. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint with the Sujanpur police, who visited their residence and retrieved the letter containing the threats.
Security measures have been intensified outside Rana’s Patlander residence, with CRPF jawans stationed to guard the premises for the past week.
