Corruption Case Registered Against Doctor and Associates by Punjab Vigilance Bureau
In its ongoing anti-corruption drive, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has filed a corruption case against five individuals, including a doctor and his assistant, for allegedly accepting bribes in exchange for issuing a false medico-legal report (MLR). A class-IV employee from the civil hospital in Ferozepur has been apprehended in connection with the case.
The accused named in the case are Dr. Shashi Bhushan, posted at the civil hospital in Ferozepur, his assistant Ram Prasad (also known as Chotu), a class-IV employee at the hospital, along with three private individuals – Rekha, her father Shammi, and mother Asha, all residents of Khateek Mandi, Ferozepur Cantonment.
According to the VB spokesperson, the case originated from a complaint filed by Tarsem, who alleged that he was falsely implicated in a case by his wife Rekha and her family. The complainant claimed that his in-laws had broken his right hand and left leg bones during a quarrel on July 9, 2020. Subsequently, a police case was registered against Tarsem and his father Rafiq based on a false MLR issued by Dr. Shashi Bhushan and Ram Prasad.
The investigation revealed that the complainant discovered through a mobile phone application that his in-laws were bribing Ram Prasad, who acted as a middleman in negotiations with Dr. Shashi Bhushan to issue the fabricated MLR. This MLR was then used to register a false case against Tarsem. The complainant submitted a CD as evidence, showing the falseness of the medical certificate issued in exchange for a significant bribe.
The VB has registered the case against all accused individuals and arrested Ram Prasad, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The investigation is still underway.
