The City traffic police on Saturday, being a holiday, had a tough time reining in the unprecedented rush of people who thronged Kalagram in their thousands to a part of the ongoing Chandigarh National Crafts Mela, jointly organised by the NZCC and Chandigarh Administration.

The key morning stage performances were folk dances of various states, Sirmouri Naati (HP), Dhamali (J&K) Machhi (Dadra and Nagar Haveli), Mayur (UP), and Punjabi folk orchestra to performed by Major Singh and troupe and Malwai Giddha (Pb). Prominent among the evening dance performances were Balti (Ladakh), Dogri(J&K), Ghoomer (Har) Rai Bense (WB), Kargam Kavadi (Tamil Nadu), Wamgla (Maghalaya), Bihu (Assam), Hozagiri (Tripura) and Bhangra (Pb).

The daily ground performances for the day included Behurupiyas playing multiple characters Nachaar and Baajigar (Punjab) Nagada, Been Jogis, Kathputli(Puppetery) artistes performed. Their power-packed performances persuaded the audience to groove over the haunting folk tunes of Punjab and Haryana.

Shoppers went on a brisk shopping spree choosing from a wide range of traditional handmade and handcrafted items. Stalls from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh offering Pashmina, Yaak wool shawls, stols, gloves, mufflers, headbands from Ladakh, while Himachali staĺl had put up the traditionally knitted Kullu and Kinnauri caps and other winter garments witnessed an unprecedented rush of buyers from all parts of the county.

Food lovers had a date with traditional Rajasthani cuisines, including Daal-baati-churma, Rajasthani thaali, Missi roti with gatta sabji, Bajra roti ker sabji, moong daal kachori, Jodhpuri mirchi pakoda, moong daal halwa and churma laddoo for the sweet tooth. Bihari food stall to offer Litti chokha, Shahi heeng, Dhudni kachori and Kesri Ras milai was the sweet dish on demand and a lot more to choose from a fare of appetizing cuisines
from various states of the country.

The daily quiz session on the theme of Indian Art and Culture attracted as many as 150 students from various government and non-goverment tricity took part. Ten students romped home with the award.

The evening had a lot more to offer to the most demanding music lovers, who defied the nippy weather conditions to listen to the popular Punjabi well-known Gurlez Akhtar-Kulwinder Kally duo.They regaled the audience with their spell-binding performance, belting out their hit numbers despite the prevailing chilly weather conditions.

The star performer on the concluding day evening is Prabh Gill, a heartthrob of the young and old with ear for music and muse.
