Delhi Police Registers FIR Against Arvind Kejriwal’s Aide for Assaulting Swati Maliwal
In a disturbing turn of events, the Delhi Police has taken action against Bibhav Kumar, the personal secretary of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, following a complaint lodged by Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Swati Maliwal. The FIR, filed on Thursday, accuses Kumar of brutally assaulting Maliwal at the CM’s residence earlier in the week. Maliwal detailed the harrowing incident, alleging that Kumar repeatedly slapped her, hit her on the chest and stomach, and kicked her in various parts of her body. Despite her cries for help, Kumar reportedly continued the assault with full force.
The complaint, invoking sections of the Indian Penal Code including molestation, criminal intimidation, and outraging a woman’s modesty, sheds light on the severity of the alleged attack. Maliwal’s ordeal unfolded on Monday at Kejriwal’s official residence, leading her to seek help at the Civil Lines police station. Although she initially left without filing a formal complaint, she later returned to provide a statement to the police, recounting the distressing incident she faced.
The gravity of the situation prompted the police to swiftly investigate the matter, with Maliwal’s statement recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC. The National Commission for Women also intervened, summoning Kumar for further inquiry. The case has sparked a political uproar, with the AAP standing by Maliwal and urging against politicizing the issue. The BJP Mahila Morcha extended support to Maliwal, emphasizing the importance of addressing such incidents to safeguard the honor and safety of women in the country.
As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on seeking justice for Maliwal and ensuring that such acts of violence are met with the strictest possible action. The FIR against Kumar underscores the need for swift and decisive measures to address assaults against women and uphold their rights and dignity. The unfolding events serve as a stark reminder of the challenges women continue to face and the imperative of a robust legal framework to protect and empower them in society.
