Disappointing Performance: India’s Batting Stars Falter as Australia Sets Mammoth 469 at The Oval in WTC Final 2023

Day 2 of the highly anticipated World Test Championship final between Australia and India witnessed a dominant display from the Australian cricket team at The Oval. India found themselves trailing Australia by a substantial margin of 318 runs at stumps, as their top-order batsmen failed to put up a fight against a formidable Australian bowling attack.

The struggles began for India early on, as Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli all faltered on a crucial day of the Test match. Australia’s pacers proved to be a constant threat, rattling the Indian top-order. Adding to India’s woes, spinner Nathan Lyon struck late on Thursday to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja.

The day proved to be yet another disappointment for India, who had a rough start with the ball on Wednesday. Despite a strong comeback in the morning session, taking quick wickets, the Indian batsmen seemed to be at a loss against the exceptional bowling prowess of Australia. With the dismissals of key players, the situation looked dire for India, until Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja displayed resilience with a defiant fourth-wicket partnership.

The duo’s partnership proved to be a saving grace for India, as they steadied the innings after being reduced to a precarious 71 for 4. Meanwhile, the Australian pacers settled into a formidable rhythm, creating immense pressure on the Indian batsmen. As the Rahane-Jadeja pair sought to stabilize the innings, the batting order dwindled, with KS Bharat and Shardul Thakur set to follow. While Thakur has a history of scoring Test half-centuries, the magnitude of the Test championship title clash raised the stakes even higher.

Australia’s dominance in the match remained unchallenged, as their first innings total of 469 put them in a commanding position. India will need a remarkable turnaround in their batting performance on Day 3 to mount a comeback and challenge Australia’s stronghold in the World Test Championship final.
